About this scene

The galaxies placed here were actually observed by the James Webb Space Telescope, as part of the JADES (JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey) program. This is not a rendering of an imagined scene — the positions, brightness, and redshift estimates come from real observational data.

The depth axis corresponds to redshift (z): the higher the value, the farther back in time and space the galaxy lies. Because light takes time to travel, looking deeper is also looking further into the past. The lateral spread, on the other hand, is exaggerated to keep a readable density rather than showing true angular separation — the survey field of view is drawn as a constant-width column, not to real scale.

The farthest galaxies sit at z ≈ 14.18 — a look-back time of roughly 13 billion years, when the universe was only a few hundred million years old.
